PROJECT OVERVIEW
Due to budget constraints, the Los Angeles/San Gabriel Valley CLCA Chapter requested the services of Netafim USA and District Sales Manager Mark Hall to participate in the landscape renovation of the LA Fire Department's Frank Hotchkin Memorial Training Center. This building is a Los Angeles Historical Landmark #972 and the first Jewish Cemetery California State Historical Landmark #822. This site also includes a memorial to the World Trade Center in New York.
The Netafim Solution
Netafim USA donated drip irrigation products and their expertise to design and supervise the installation of a complete irrigation system. This surface dripperline irrigation system was designed to water 12 large planter beds located at the main entrance of the building.
The project took place on June 24, 2005 as a volunteer workday with over 600 participants to install waterproofing, drainage, planter mix, shrubs, trees, groundcover and a drip irrigation system. Mark was provided with a total of 20 men and women to assist him. For most of the volunteers, this was their first experience with drip irrigation.
Following a 30 minute training class each person began to pre-assemble drip manifolds and grids to fit each planter. The dripperline used for this application and soil type was Techline CV dripperline. The dripper of Techline CV dripperline is designed with a check valve that can hold back 4.5' of water and has a 0.6 gallon per hour emitter, each spaced 18" apart inside the wall of the dripperline. This is the next generation in the Techline Dripperline family. There are a total of 563 inline emitters that will precisely irrigate over 1,250 square feet of planter beds.
The project was successfully completed in one day. This dripperline system will reduce water waste, promote a healthy root system, keep water off walls, foundations and sidewalks and eliminate evaporation and the negative effects of wind. In summary, Netafim provided a sound solution for this irrigation challenge.
